Find Your Zen

At Hotel Café Royal's Akasha Wellbeing Institute, Inner Peace Is Found Below Ground
Subterranean Serenity

In the center of London, an underground haven for well-being exists far and away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Embark on a journey into mind, body, and spirit at the Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Centre on the lower two levels of the historic Hotel Café Royal. According to Sanskrit legend, Akasha was the source of all creation, before earth, water, fire and air. In Persian, the origin of the word means inner space.

Sir David Chipperfield designed the spa for tired travelers that has guests feeling as if they've been transported out of the city and into a celestial world. It is one of London's sleekest escapes thanks to its luxuriously minimalist design by Britain's leading architect, the master of minimalism himself, who says his work's mission is to apply values of intelligence, permanence and logic to his projects. The Akasha Spa suits it well.

Wrapped Up In Gold

Among its many amenities, Akasha has one of the few lap pools inside a London hotel (at 18 meters long), and London's first Watsu pool is dedicated to the highly sought after body therapy treatments performed in warm water, which combine various elements of massage.

The spa seamlessly, but purposefully, incorporates the elements of earth, water, fire, and air into its treatments. Earth offers nourishment in the calming Lounge Bar, where a healthy menu is created by nutritional therapist, Zoe Stirling, and the hotel’s chef de cuisine, Armand Sablon. Water flows through the aqua-centric spa, where signature treatments marry innovative Western practices with ancient Eastern traditions.

Fire blazes across the cutting-edge, 300 square meter gym, filled with the latest exercise equipment. Air breezes through the wide-open studio space, where guests can breathe easy in private or group classes offered by experts in yoga, pilates, and tai-chi.

Created exclusively for Hotel Café Royal, the indulgent 23 carat gold signature hamman treatment wraps guest up in the precious metal. Designed by cosmetic artisan spa brand La Sultane de Saba, the treatment mixes 23 carat gold, mother of pearl, and caviar extract, for an exfoliating effect that leaves a shimmery glow on the skin. The private ritual is performed in the exquisitely designed white marble, heated hamman.
