A Photography Tour of Barcelona

One Of The World’s Most Visually Appealing Cities Comes Into Focus On A Photographic Tour
The Eye Has To Travel

Austrian photographer, Philipp Pawelka’s images capture the beauty of the world’s most striking landscapes. His vast views of sprawling deserts from the Sahara to the Gulf of Oman, and his extensive travels to Nepal and Madagascar are captured in his books "Impressions of Nepal," “Madagascar," and "Magic Deserts," each one a testament to the idiom "every picture tells a story."

Originally from Vienna, Philipp approaches shooting cityscapes the same way he does landscapes. Guests of El Palace Barcelona have the opportunity to join Philipp in viewing the city with a different perspective during a one-on-one photography lesson and tour.

Begin at the artful hotel, opened in 1919 by César Ritz. Yes, that César Ritz. In fact, many Barcelonéses still refer to El Palace as The Ritz, which was officially renamed in 2005.

Pawelka, originally from Vienna, guides visually curious El Palace Barcelona guests on a photographic tour.

By Day, By Night

Find the right angle to capture the architecture of El Palace Barcelona, where Salvador Dalí and his wife, Gala, once lived. There's no limit to what comes next since the hotel is the perfect starting point—centrally located near the old Gothic Quarter and picturesque Passeig de Gràcia, and surrounded by landmark attractions like the Picasso Museum, and Sagrada Família cathedral, Antoni Gaudí's unfinished masterpiece of Modernism.

Philipp guides budding photographers of all skill levels wishing to hone their craft from various vantage points. While the obvious sights are a must, the visually curious are steered toward the city's hidden gems, and away from the typical postcard mementos. Evening tours illuminate the magic and mystery of Barcelona by night. Or, a combination adventure of day and night offers a lesson in contrasting light.

If you're more interested in capturing graffiti than Gaudí, go for it. The photography lesson, which can be booked for anywhere from three to six hours, is tailored to each guest’s individual interests.

Guests must bring their own camera; tripods are available upon request. To learn more about El Palace Barcelona, or to book a photography tour, please contact the concierge upon making a reservation.
